A Volkswagen’s board member confirmed that the German automaker is working on a mini-MPV version of the 2010 Polo along with a “more macho” successor to the Beetle. Han Dieter Potsch said that a “mini-MPV is in an area we have under active consideration. In terms of downsizing, people will not stick to one type of small car or another.”
Sources told AutoCar that many brands struggle with mini-MPVs but when they are planned and executed properly, “they can be complementary.”
Potsch said that Volkswagen has been stepping up R&D efforts to make sure it is not in a troublesome position when the market starts to recover.
As for the “macho Beetle,” sources told AutoCar that the car will be a lot less feminine than before and will be more masculine so guys are interested in buying it.
